What Back Pain Brings People In

Most people who call us are not looking for a lecture about posture. Something hurts. It may have started lifting, after a long week at a desk, during harvest, or for no reason you can name. Sometimes it stays in the low back. Sometimes it grabs when you stand up, drive, or roll over in bed.

At Knapp Chiropractic Center we have treated back pain in Hillsdale County since 1983. The first job is to find out what is irritated: a joint that is not moving, a strained muscle, or a disc that is bothering a nerve.

Who This Is For

Patients come in for back pain when they notice:

  • Low back pain that is sharp, dull, or catches when you move
  • Stiffness that is worse in the morning or after sitting
  • Pain between the shoulder blades from work or driving
  • Pain after lifting, yard work, or a long day on your feet
  • Back pain with leg symptoms, which we also evaluate as possible sciatica
  • Pain that has hung on after rest, medication, or waiting it out

How We Treat Back Pain

Care starts with a history and an exam. If we need pictures, digital X-ray is in the office. From there the plan is specific to what we find.

  1. Chiropractic adjustments restore motion in the joints that are stuck and take pressure off irritated tissue. We use manual, instrument, and lighter-force methods, matched to you.
  2. Spinal decompression is for disc-related pain: bulging discs, herniated discs, and some cases of long-standing low back pain. It is a gentle, computerized traction, not surgery.
  3. Red light therapy and other in-office therapies calm inflamed muscle and support the adjustment. They are often added to a visit rather than used alone.

We do not sign patients up for a long contract on the first visit. You get an explanation of what we found and what we recommend.

Why Patients in Hillsdale Choose Us

We see patients from Hillsdale, Jonesville, Reading, Camden, and Pittsford. The office is at 1384 Vera Dr. in Hillsdale, with early hours and Saturday mornings. Four doctors share the practice, so you can usually get in when one doctor is out.

If your back pain follows farm work, a desk, or deer season, we have written about those situations on the blog. This page is the place to start if you want the back itself evaluated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an X-ray for back pain?

Not always. We examine you first and take on-site digital X-rays when the findings call for them. You do not have to go across town for imaging.

Can you help a disc problem without surgery?

Many disc-related cases are candidates for chiropractic adjustments and spinal decompression. We will tell you honestly if decompression is a fit, and if it is not.

How soon can I be seen?

Same-day appointments are often available. Call (517) 437-4767 or request a visit online.
